Hand Up Cooperative
Hand Up Cooperative is a Cooperative effort of the United Way of Larimer County, The Murphy Center of Hope, and the business community of Fort Collins.
The mission of Hand Up is to match area businesses that have employment opportunities with pre-screened applicants from the homeless community that need a job and ultimately to help them to get the "Hand Up" they need to permanently get off the streets. About the Center
The Sister Mary Alice Murphy Center for Hope is a new facility in North Fort Collins, at the corner of Blue Spruce and Conifer. The Center for Hope is a resource center for families and individuals who are homeless or on the brink
of homelessness. It is a place for people who are ready to make life changes
to overcome their current situation, and who need some help doing so. The mission of the Center for Hope is to help these families and individuals achieve stability and long-term self-sufficiency.
Sister Mary Alice Murphy
The facility is named "The Sister Mary Alice Murphy Center for Hope" in honor
of Sister Mary Alice Murphy, a long-time advocate for the poor in Fort Collins. She opened the first soup kitchen, the first homeless shelter and the first nonprofit affordable housing agency, and now the Center for Hope.
Services
The Murphy Center provides case managers to work very closely with clients and connect them with the appropriate
community resources for their particular needs. The Center also provides a variety of complementary services such as: employment resources, housing resources, financial counseling, transportation assistance, job training and educational opportunities, mental health and substance abuse counseling, and access to a telephone and computer for making employment contacts. These services are provided at the Center by a variety of local human services agencies. This facility is the base where these resources are linked together and people find the support they need to make changes in their lives.
The center also has mailboxes and voicemail for homeless people who find it hard to network for jobs or acquire necessary documents to get their jobs, homes and public services.
Donations Still Needed
The Murphy Center for Hope was created by the vision, commitment and countless hours of work of many people in Larimer County. Over 50 community members and more than a dozen organizations have participated in the planning of this project. Thank you to everyone who has helped us make this possible. Click here to donate directly to the Sister Mary Alice Murphy Center for Hope. If you prefer to mail your donation, please send it to: United Way/Murphy Center for Hope, 424 Pine Street, Suite 102, Fort Collins, CO 80524.
We still need $190,000 to complete the center. Please, consider making a contribution to help us make this vision a reality.
