Apply for United Way Funding

Becoming a Partner Agency
As a local health and human service agency, you are dedicated to serving those in need and are committed to making an impact in our neighborhoods, our schools, and throughout our community.

By becoming a United Way partner agency, your organization will join a network of health and human service agencies that work together to make an impact in our community. Partner agencies report that the most significant benefit of being a United Way partner is enhanced credibility. Agencies undergo a thorough evaluation before selection and are held to the highest standards of performance.

Nonprofits that partner with United Way enjoy numerous benefits. These partnerships create a win-win situation all around – for those being served, for those contributing, for United Way, and for the agency.

Partnership
As a partner agency, you will receive unrestricted program funding through the Community Safety Net. However, the benefits of becoming a United Way partner agency are not only monetary.

Additional benefits include the following:

  • Access to consultations, technical assistance and training
  • Opportunities to build partnerships with the business sector of our community, other local funders and interested community groups
  • Opportunities to present at local companies in conjunction with the United Way campaign to educate contributors about the impact your agency makes in the community
  • Feedback from United Way volunteers and staff regarding your programs and services that can lead to improvement of program operations, delivery and evaluation methods

As a partner agency, you will contribute to the partnership by doing the following:

  • Participating in United Way's campaign by providing speakers and conducting agency tours
  • Conducting your own internal United Way campaign
  • Displaying evidence of your United Way Partnership at site
  • Participating in co-marketing efforts such as Make a Difference Day, agency fairs and appreciation events
  • Completing performance reports twice a year (February 15 and August 15)

Eligibility

To be considered for partnership, an agency must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt health or human service organization
  • Serve clients within Larimer County
  • Have a voluntary board of directors within the service area
  • Have a recent audit if your agency’s revenues are over $250,000; or an independent review if your agency’s revenue is under $250,000
  • Operate programs that address at least one of United Way's desired outcomes

These eligibility requirements are subject to change.

Funding process
Any 501(c)3, health and human service organization providing service in Larimer County is eligible to submit a letter of intent in response to the public request for proposal.

Selected applicants are invited to submit a full proposal. This process includes a proposal orientation, the availability of technical assistance from staff, the submission of a detailed proposal with accompanying documents and an agency review and possible site visit with the community volunteers. The community volunteers who review agencies make their funding recommendations to the United Way board. Board decisions are final.

Selection criteria
The United Way Board of Directors has identified specific community goals for improving the lives of people in need in Larimer County. Only those agencies that can document a measurable impact on these goals through a process of outcomes measurement will be considered for selection as a partner agency.

United Way is focused on the bottom-line results: the lives we change and the communities we shape. We don’t just measure results by how much money we raise. We look at the overall impact on specific goals that we’ve targeted and the lives and communities we have improved.

Funding timeline
Below is a tentative timeline of the funding process for the FY 2006-2009 cycle:

  • June 7, 2006 - Funding contracts awarded to partner agencies for 2006-2009
  • August 2007, 2008, 2009 - Partner agencies submit year-end outcomes and demographic reports
