Make A Difference Day 2006 is here!
Throughout the week of October 23rd 28th hundreds of Larimer County residents will join together to make a real difference in our communities. Make A Difference Day is the most encompassing national day of helping others - a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors.
Created by USA WEEKEND Magazine, Make A Difference Day is an annual event. In Larimer County in 2005, over 1,600 people volunteered at 72 different projects. Examples of last year’s projects include: assisting with an art show at Golden Peaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, assembling parenting information packets at Bright Beginnings, completing housekeeping projects at the Fort Collins Public Library, registering families with the "Angels Among Us" Christmas program at The Salvation Army, and distributing breast cancer screening information for the Women’s Resource Center.
Volunteers can register on-line by visiting www.uwaylc.org, or over the phone by dialing 2-1-1 (or 970-407-7066). Ways to help out are through hosting a project, conducting or participating in a donation drive, or by telling others about Make a Difference Day to get them involved too! Volunteers will be able to read descriptions of the different projects, pick days and times, and choose the one that is right for them, including projects suitable for families, youth and groups. Volunteers can begin entering and reviewing projects online starting September 12.
Make A Difference Day is celebrated across the nation with millions of people participating in their communities. Local sponsors include First National Bank, Intel, Hewlett-Packard, Fort Fund, and the Fort Collins Church Network. Whether you choose to volunteer with your faith group, company, family, friends, or just yourself, don’t miss this amazing opportunity to do good in the community!
